Showtime Anytime playback and casting issues on Xiaomi Mi

by kr1mson

I'm getting all kinds of playback issues with Showtime anytime recently... I can play some movies, but I've tried to watch the same couple episodes of billions for like a week, and SA either gives me an error, doesn't load the video and shows the Android spinning circle, or loads the video and then it stops with green artifacts all over...
I reinstalled and reactivated the app, and that seems to have fixed the video from not loading, but now I get the artifacts every time... It happens when I cast from my phone, too. The video plays fine on my phone and on my SA in my downstairs Samsung smart TV app....

Anyone else having similar issues?
Any suggestions??

Your starting point should always be the contact info in the playstore listing. If you are clearing catch, reinstalling the app, etc than there is not a ton more anyone on here can do for you.

Edit: Reading the playstore listing it looks like there is also live help on www.showtimeanytime.com

I just want to add that this isn't just you. I came to this message board today desperate for an answer. Can't believe it's not just me either.

I did a factory reset recently to solve the DRM issues that stopped HBO and Showtime playback completely! Everything was going great again until it wasn't...

Some movies on Showtime work, others go 5 seconds and then freeze/crash with green artifacts, yet indicate they are still playing as the time elapsed moves, but that's it. It then brings up the Loading circle and it's time to back out of the video.

Then there was the casting... I read in another thread today (which I cannot find) someone saying the Chromecast in the Mi Box caused the same issue. I couldn't believe this. I played the movie on my PC which worked fine and then hit cast and instantly I got strobing green artifacts non stop. I thought I was going to have a seizure.

Wish I knew what to do shy of factory resetting again.

I remember contacting HBO about the DRM issue and their response to everything was linking me to their list of 4 supported devices.

So I'm back to having the bad problem again... HBO worked great since the factory reset. Showtime was spotty, some yes, some no.

So I'm binge watching a show on Starz and I come back to test Showtime again, but I don't get the same problem. I get THIS again on both Showtime AND HBO, which worked hours ago!

"exoplayer error: exoplaybackexception android.media.mediadrm$mediadrmstateexception: failed to open sessions. session not opened"

Looks like another factory reset... I want to cry.
