N00b Shield user Plex server questions

by LittleOnionThatCould

My shiny new Nvidia Shield arrived via Amazon and Canada post yesterday and I am very impressed at its overall awesomeness. Also thank you to people on here who suggested that I turn off Location settings to allow Amazon Prime video to work properly in Canada. Worked perfectly! Anyway... the reason I am posting here is because I am trying to set this up as a Plex server but am running into an issue getting files actually transferred onto the USB drive I have connected to the Shield. The instructions on the Nvidia site say: Go to Settings > Device > Storage & reset > Access SHIELD folders on PC. However for me "Access SHIELD folders on PC" is missing. So i'm curious what others have done to achieve full Plex server status, as I am unsure how to put actual media on this server

If you want to access the sheild from your computer you need to make a network connection. Your PC needs to be on a home network. I would just put the media on the usb via the PC, then plug the USB into the sheild and have plex search there for media.

Go into the Play Store and install any pending updates for Plex Media Server. Once it's updated, the option should show up.

Just something I didn't find mentioned, but is very useful, there's a micro usb port on the back of the device, so you can drag and drop from a laptop via MTP. This also works with external drives.

If you aren't seeing the USB drive it probably isn't formatted to the correct format

So for anyone that comes across this in the future, the answer is that after installing Plex you then need to open the Play Store app, go to my apps then update the Plex Server app. After that is done then the steps I posted above to access it over the network work properly
