Kodi 4k stutter, not smooth playback on MiBox?

by Va_Fungool

i have 200mbps internet and a 4k 60hz tv. When watching Kodi 4k on MiBox i can distinctly notice that the playback is not smooth. There is a slight stutter in processing. Its not buffering but its something in playback.

1080p works fine with no issues

Does anyone else notice it too?

I streamed a 4K, 60 fps test video encoded in h.265 over wifi to my Mi Box using VLC and Kodi and the device definitely had issues with it, but it wasn't entirely discouraging. It did drop a handful of frames, but more than that it just seemed to be alternating between normal playback speed and a playback speed that was too fast.

For now I would characterize the box as being able to play just about anything up to 4K @ 30fps, provided it's not having some sort of software issue at the time that prevents the option from being available in a particular app when it actually should be.

I streamed 4K, 30 fps rips of that netflix show "The OA" encoded in h.264 over wifi and I had no issues playing those in Kodi.

The device is also bad at playing back Apple encoded .mov files straight off an iphone, but I don't really care much about that. It seems to have no hardware acceleration whatsoever for doing that.

So the real question to be answered before testing 4K anything ?

A) is Android Resolution settings selected to 4K2K60Hz ?

B) What sort of WiFi are people using 5Ghz N or AC ?

Be aware there is no Auto Resolution switching in Android TV - it has to be done manually.

The Mi Box is great for 1080p but for 4k forget about it. Youtube video is extremely choppy.

It's the WiFi, you need to add an Ethernet adapter for anything that has a higher bit rate.

Yep, it's barely powerful enough to run the UI in 4k. It's basically just a box sticker.
