With my MiBox, what are my options for passing through live TV using a regular antenna, what could my options be if/when MiBox gets 7.0?

Works well with an HDHomeRun for me

Just get a HDHomeRun Connect or Extend instead of a USB connected device. This way you can use it on all your devices.

If USB tuners get supported in the 7.0 update, then you'll be able to use that. I'm currently using a beta version of 7.0 and it doesn't support it though. I'm just hoping it will when it officially drops.

Some guy on this subreddit said he bought a USB tuner off of eBay that works on 6.0 or 7.0 beta but only with a special .apk. I haven't seen any proof of it working or what the UI is like or what features it has.

My plan is wait till the official update hits the mibox and if USB tuners aren't supported then I'll be looking for a box that does.

Tablo DROID and Tablo Tuner have been mentioned specifically for the Nvidia Shield. Would be nice if they support the Mi Box when it's finally released. Note the USB tuner is the same as this Hauppauge so it may be supported by multiple apps including Live Channels.

Usb tuner like hauppauge hvr-955 + dedicated PC with Software like nextpvr, tvheadend or mythtv, Kodi PVR addons. All your devices will work with Kodi PVR addons. You'll have full DVR and even transcoding to WAN should you want to and got the bandwidth or computing power for on the fly transcode. Tvheadend is my favorite but nextpvr is very simple to get going. Mythtv I never got to work, but is also an option along with probably a dozen others. Once/if live tv is implemented on mi box that specific hauppauge tuner should work fine if you want to axe the dedicated PC.

More usb turners = more channels to stream and record at once. It expands easily. Tvheadend also seamlessly integrates with live channels app if you don't like Kodi. (Need tvheadend app on mi box, enter server details)

There is incorrect info in this thread.

All Kodi Krypton PVR usage on ALL Android boxes is broken, you get:

  • Broken Hardware decoding and broken hardware deinterlacing every second TV channel change.

  • When it does work Kodi Deinterlacing is Half Motion on the Mi Box, not good for fast action sports.

You have to use the Live Channels App or as suggested a HDHomerun with its associated App.

NOTE: Do not assume nVIDIA Shield USB Tuners will work with the Mi Box, DVB driver support has to be compiled into the Firmware - Kernel. And these will be different between Android TV devices.

Sorry to be a wet blanket but what your wanting to do is impractical and will not work. There are no input other than the HDMI. You would need a video capture device plus software that may not be supported by Android 6.O. So what u want to do will not work or will not get the result your looking for. I suggest if u want FTA simple use STB Emu and get an IPTV subscription. Time to cut the cord

I plan to use my Tablo 2Tuner on mine when it arrives Wednesday. I am currently using the Tablo with an Apple TV, Galaxy s8, Chromebook, Windows PC, iPhone, you name it. It has worked extremely well and it is great to even be able to stream live TV and my DVR content while away from home. I see the HDHomeRun is popular, but during my research I for some reason went with the Tablo and I have been very happy with it. Development is very current and software/firmware updates come frequently. Just another option for you. Does not hook up with HDMI, just connects to all your devices over wifi.
