New launcher experience with Google Assistant coming to Android Tv.

There will probably be a blog announcing this changes but they showed the new experience for a brief moment during the live stream.

It looks like the old Fire TV interface that was pretty terrible. Maybe it will not be as bad.

I like the idea of this for some of the apps I use most with Android TV...specifically, Plex, YouTube and PS Vue. Given this is only a glimpse into a specific view, hopefully there's some granular control over the interface. Having to deal with this for all apps will make it annoying...

Also, considering the Nexus Player is still available to get the Android O update, I would think this new interface will start to be more resource intensive. Hopefully, Google realizes they still need a reference device for all this new functionality. The Shield is not an entry level price for Android TV and obviously Xiaomi has showed their cards that they can't get their shit together...

On a side note, It is still annoying that Google Home does not fully support Android tv.

They announced that Google home can show things on Chromecast for certain questions and new services that will support playing content directly by asking for it. No mention of Android tv anywhere.

Android TV is on the I/O schedule later this evening so hopefully there will be more information forthcoming: "What's New for Android TV" https://events.google.com/io/schedule/?section=may-17&sid=bd623b44-d26a-4b62-9833-c0301bd4217b

If you don't like it, don't install it.

Simple solution instead of complaining about an incomplete version.

Apparently there is a "Watch Next" channel. Perhaps this is Google's version of Apple's tv app on Apple TV.

From the Android developers blog on the Android O beta -

A new homescreen for Android TV makes it easy for users to find, preview, and watch content provided by apps. Apps can publish one or more channels, and users can control the channels that appear on the homescreen. You’ll be able to get started with creating channels using the new TvProvider support library APIs.

https://youtu.be/UfPBum6MISM very quick and dirty first look, it's different but I'm getting used to it already. Most of the stuff can be rearranged including apps and the channels (main apps that you scroll down for)

It looks terrible but it may be very early. Hopefully they will pretty it up quite a bit.

I can't WAIT for this!

What we are seeing on the beta is pretty premature compared to what the final product and goals are.

Live session changed my mind after seeing some real content

Not for me. I'll be sticking to my TVLauncher3 home screen :)

Wow, looks shit. Not upgrading to that cluttered mess.

Looks like trash. Great work, Google.

Welp, time to sell my Shield TV. I don't use any of those apps, and I don't want a device with a useless home screen.
