'Old' Shield TV or New?

by gavvit

I'm pondering an upgrade from a FireTV .. just wondering if it's worth paying the approx 12% extra for the new model Shield TV? I'm not worried about a remote controller as I'd be using a Harmony Hub anyway. Software-capabilities-wise, the old and new look to be identical.

(I'd be looking at the 16GB model as I don't need a large-ish HDD based storage, I have a NAS for all my media.)

Same exact hardware but the new one is missing things like IR and microSD. If you can get the old one, just do that.

New model owner.

As far as I'm aware, the only difference are minor hardware stuff. The gamepad is nicer and the main unit is pretty significantly smaller. I think the internals and the software are identical.

I just grabbed a used 2015 16gb on Ebay this week for $162. Hooked it up this morning and love it.

thanks for the prompt responses ... think I'll go for the old one then. The MicroSD will be handy for some onboard storage, I assume I can install apps to it?

Old one. I like having the IR sensor and the SD slot. That being said, they're harder to find. Check eBay though.
