Mi box wifi

by spunkylips

Recently bought 2 Mi boxes to replace 2 older units that couldnt update to kodi 17.1.

Since I got the Mi boxes, I've had no end of wifi connection problems.

I use a subscrption iptv service which now constantly buffers, and addons like exodus are similar.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks. Easy done for the living room, but the bedroom doesnt have a NAP.

I find it unusual that my old (very cheap) units, performed much better than the highly recommended Mi boxes.

i got an official xiaomi usb 2.0 adaptor from aliexpress (also dx.com)

cost me $7aud and works fine.

keep in mind that the port on the mi box is usb 2.0 so the max speed is 480mbps

For mine, if I keep it on the 5ghz network, at random times during the day it seems to do something to my router and my 5ghz goes down for about 5-10 minutes as well as it seems to eat all the wifi bandwidth, so other 5ghz devices are super slow. If I switch my mibox to my 2.4 ghz network, my 5ghz never goes down or has any other issues with it interfering with other devices on the 5ghz...

I really need to get a USB ethernet adapter for it.

That said, when it's working well, I never get crazy buffering or anything.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, much appreciated.

Will get hold of an ethernet to USB converter and give that a bash. Will also have a look at buying a wifi extender or one that sends ethernet over power network.

I have a feeling that the problem still lies with my wifi settings. Need to do some homework and see what can be changed to try and improve things. Have already done some basic things like changing the channel to one that's not as congested.

Are you sure its WiFi problems at all. With Kodi 17.x it would be a good idea to use a Video Cache: http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO%3AModify_the_video_cache

Save the required to a USB Stick and use Kodi's File manager to then copy it into the Profile Directory. Reboot Kodi.

Streaming from Dodgy unreliable pirate servers I suspect is you main problem.

Get a USB 3.0 Ethernet dongle like everyone else and hardwire it up. Find them on Amazon for less than $20.
