I would also point out that this is running on a Shield. Hmm.
This can be REALLLYY cool and useful if somehow Kodi+Exodus+other add-ons can implement this.
Really happy to see Netflix showing up in recommendations here! It's about time. I suppose it would be silly to hope for Amazon as well.
Man, that looks exactly like the FireTV interface.
I have a nexus player and I joined the beta. I lasted 3 days. I had to go back. I did not like the interface at all. It was less efficient for me. Additionally, it felt less "welcoming." I missed having the recommended things to watch as the top banner.
I'm not a fan. Maybe I have it wrong and somebody can explain it to me. Only six apps are displayed at the top. If i have more than six apps, including games, that i use regularly I'll have to find them via the drawer. That is going to be annoying and inefficient.
I've never found recommendations useful but now it looks like each app gets it's own row for recommendations. That looks like I'm going to be getting even more recommendation spam. And with my (only six) apps at the top, there's only space for one app row without scrolling. So I won't even be able to see other apps or know how far down the homescreen they are. This is more of a problem for my wife who isn't going to obsessively arrange the homescreen (if that's even possible) and will have to slowly scroll down the screen until the app she's looking for is on the screen.
One thing they don't show in the video is that you can get to the full app drawer at any time by holding down the app button. I like any type of new update. I like the clean background this provides.
Do NOT WANT!
gotta say...pretty ugly :P
Am I the only person who is very interested in using the new UI?
I really dislike that I have to use a launcher to get into each app in order to start watching content. A single space that presents content, regardless of source, is ideal. This seems to be partway there. Maybe it doesn't seamlessly integrate all content, but it does allow you to jump directly into watching something from the home screen. The current recommendations row isn't very helpful since it puts all sources into one long row which doesn't really present the content for browsing.
It's not the same as the FireTV interface since that only shows Prime content. Showing relevant content from multiple sources is something that Amazon will probably never do since it'll take the focus off Prime.
I'm currently using a Shield TV, but I think I'll pull out my Nexus Player to give the beta a shot.
