Which be better as an Android TV device, Nexus Player or Mi Box?

by RockSmashEveryThing

I am new to Android TV and want to know which would be better for Android TV.

The ASUS Nexus Player has been discontinued. It's still out there on the market. Is it still getting updates or will be that be coming to end soon?

The Mi Box is kind of the go to Android TV device besides the way higher priced Nvidia Shield TV.

How does the Nexus Player compare to Mi Box? Which one is better? Any other similar prices options?

Thanks guys!

I replaced my much-loved Nexus player with a Mi Box. Haven't regretted it.

Don't own the mibox but the nexus player hardware is definitely aged. Feels slow and has memory issues in my experience.

Shield TV > Mi Box > Nexus Player.

MiBox mdz-16-ab supports 4K video. Not so for Nexus.

I have a nexus player and it's been reliable. That being said, it is starting to have trouble keeping up. If my wife wasn't so attached to the simple remote and voice search... It would be binned.

I'd go with the $69 Mi Box for now. When O comes out (not for a bit) then there will hopefully be another Nexus (guess on my part) and hopefully other sub $100 streaming boxes. From other comments and the Mi Box/Nexus recommendations downvotes, I would definitely hold off on spending $200-$300 on Shield until O is out because chances are they will make a Shield 2 for that major Android TV update. The "new" Shield is just a refresh. Before the Shield loyalists get too angry: don't worry, it's still good hardware and if your happy with it then you didn't waste your money. There are just other options.
