I'm so close to getting Amazon Video to work on my Mi Box, but I'm hitting a snag.
I'm using HALauncher to run a sideloaded version with a BT Keyboard/Mouse. I manage to load a video, but I get an "Unfortunately, Amazon Video stopped working" message right in the middle of the screen ... with the video playing right behind it!
Of course, if I click OK, the video stops and I get sent back the app's menu.
Any ideas how to fix this?
actually, i got the original Shield Amazon Prime App version 4.1.155 running on my Mi Box.
However, since i only own one lonely movie (currently only thinking about getting prime), plus i can't really test 4K HDR with AC3 etc. i can hardly provide any support.
I should probably go test with my neighbours to get better results.

The version provided by the linked APK works "fine" for me. I don't even use PVL, I just use it to install a working version of the video player, then remove PVL https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/5wqetm/amazon_prime_launcher/dgbeyp3/
Sounds like you should quit being cheap and get a shield. The mi box is a piece of shit anyways and so far update / support is basically non existent. At least the shield will be supported for a very long time.
Sideload Chrome, Log in to Prime Movies & watch in HD. F on your keyboard toggles fullscreen if you miss the icon in the upper right of the screen at the start. Ditched that 480p app ages ago.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, you're going to want to select 'Desktop Mode' within Chrome prior to logging in.
