I have an Nvidia Shield TV and the YouTube app is around a year old. Is it just the ShieldTV or all AndroidTV that has the old YouTube app?

It's definitely been the same for a few months now but I find that it does everything I need it to. Other than maybe a way to refresh the top row of suggestion in case I want more. Currently, I just back out of the app and re-open it.
According to this article YouTube for Android TV will be getting a brand new UI overhaul sometime later this year, as to what features have been added besides the new look and support for 360 videos we'll have to wait and find out when it gets updated to the new UI :/
Is there a way to view comments? I can't seem to figure out how?
Google has always sucked at updating their apps, whether it be Android TV or regular Android.
It's the same situation across all TV-based platforms for this app.
It hasn't had a true update in over a year and is long overdue for one, but due to the way it's built, they are able to make changes to the app by updating individual modules that the app opens sort of like web pages.
It's lacking a lot of features that the phone version has, which is strange to me. Maybe in theory they believe the interface would become too cluttered or inaccessible for use with a remote but I think they have erred on the side of making it too simple.
I want to be able to manage playlists like adding and removing videos to the "watch later" list. Rarely, I'd also like the option of reading comments as awful as they are.
Most of all, I would like the ability to turn off autoplay of additional videos.
All. Google does support AndroidTV when it gets around to it and remembers that it is there. Hopefully it remembers soon and they update YouTube and finish the Playstore app.
