Mibox 3 and Google Play Store

by knowingpark

Hi. I just setup my MiBox3. I'm in Australia. I can't find any of the local TV station apps (SBS On Demand, ABC iView etc) in the app store. Does anyone know what the restrictions are, is android TV not enough operating system to run these apps? Is there some sort of hack? I wish I understood that there were these restrictions before I bought it :(

ABC iView - found under releases tab:

SBS On Demand: https://github.com/nextux/sbs-android-tv

Plus 7 from the Android TV App store

Freeview FV App for phones/ tablets can cast Live TV to the Mi Box.

Stan has recently put out an nice bespoke Android TV App as well.

SUGGEST: you hang out on the Oz Whirlpool forums, in the Mi Box specific thread ;-)

The Android TV Play store only shows compatible apps with Android TV by default. You'll need to sideload those specific ones, and probably connect a mouse to actually use them, and get sideload browser or whatever is called to find and run them.

If those apps are like the few Canadian ones you'll also need to turn your TV on its side as they don't know they are already in landscape. As a bonus for Canadians no provider will chromecast properly to the mi box, which is why I also need an actual Chromecast connected I can cast to. The mi box is 100% useless for it basically.

There aren't any Android TV apps for any of the Freeview channels. SBS and ABC (and 9 i think) have chromecast support, so you can cast from your phone. that's the closest you'll get at this time

Put kodi on it and install the catch up apps that way.

Only one in Android tv store is 7 plus.

You could side load, but the Kodi option is a lot easier
