AT&T will soon launch an Android TV STB to go along with DIRECT TV

It will have the same specs as the AirTV from Dish (Technicolor), should look different though.

As seen below :

  • To help maximize the availability of this popular service package, AT&T decided to partner with a supplier to provide the highest quality OTT device directly to the end user.

  • The Indigo set-top box offers the end user a compact OTT device that combines linear sports content with OTT services such as YouTube and Netflix. It features Android 7.0 “Nougat” software, Dual Band 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. We also bundle a Technicolor specified voice remote which also controls TV On/Off and volume.

  • Integrated with Android TV, this product is easy for AT&T to customize to their brand and provides the end user with the capability to enjoy the highest quality 4K content. AT&T plans to offer this device with their DIRECTV NOW service launched in November 2016.

As much as I dislike AT&T's services and practices, I'm glad to see this as hopefully it and the use of Android TV STB's by other providers will start triggering more support for the platform down the line.

Well that's damn interesting. That means dtvnow app would be coming to atv. Im amazon updates their shit hole atv app then I would consider going back to the shield.

I have a feeling this will be the same guts as what foxtel(Aus) announced here https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/6fkxpc/australian_paytv_provider_foxtel_launching_100_4k/

Now all AT&T needs to do is integrate OTA with OTT in the DirecTV Now guide and it will have potential...

I really love the SlingTV / AirTV Player combo. It's not perfect and there's certainly room for improvement, but it has a high WAF.

Also, SlingTV has the best à la carte subscription model IMO. I'm not too impressed with the DirecTV Now packages.

meh, Content Providers should just create apps.. not devices, like we need more under powered, poorly maintained, and bastardized variants preloaded with crapware and spyware.. Going to make AndroidTV look more like Android for phones where they allow good devices to become obsolete far too early by simply ignoring em; leaving you with no choice but to root it or replace it.

Ditching the fucking cable box is a large contribution to why most of cut the cord in the first place, try supporting Live Channels in your own software before building your own hardware ffs.
