Got the LeEco Super4 X55, do I really need a Shield or any other streaming device?

by DudeWheresMyJacket

I understand that there might not be any updates given LeEco's situation but I mostly watch Netflix in 4K. Would a Shield really improve the streaming that much to justify the price?

Also bummed that the TV doesn't have the amazon video app so I might consider that a benefit of getting the Shield.

You might not need a SHIELD to start with, but eventually you'll want one, whether it's for Amazon support, or the PLEX server, or the fact that it's being updated while the LeEco isn't.

I picked up that TV too. I have my shield and TV connected via Ethernet and the only difference I've noticed is that sling sometimes stutters. But that could just be a recent thing. I haven't tried gaming on it, but it's not that big of a deal for me at this point.

I do OTA TV, so the built in channel navigation is a huge benefit, not to mention only having to use one remote.

I still have my shield, it's doing duty in the basement on the old TV. With that said, I wouldn't pick up a shield for this TV unless you really need Amazon, Plex, or some Nvidia shield factor. If your worried about the version of Android... Well, nothing is 7.0 exclusive that I know of. I would just buy a shield or whatever comes out in the future when the TV is horribly out of date.

You might be able to sideload the Amazon Video app. If you do that, then what would you really need that your LeEco can't provide?

Today? Not really. In the future? Probably.

That TV has a very good chipset compared to Sony Bravias.

Seriosuly, what is the downside to these TV's? I want one but I know there has to be an obvious downside.

For anyone that has this TV, how is it with HDHR prime? Is the decoding as good as the SHIELD? Meaning, do you get the blur and stuttering like you do on the NP or MiBox when viewing some channels, particularly sports.

I bet you are getting better quality 1080p > 4K Netflix picture upscaling output on the 4K LeEco TV compared to using a nVIDIA Shield.
