Best remote for a Shield?

by shes_a_gdb

What remote does everyone use with an Nvidia Shield? Right now I have a logitech harmony with a hub, but it's not the easiest thing to use for guests. There's no "netflix" button, if you launched PS Vue the "guide" button doesn't actually open the guide, etc. There's no way to create custom in-app activities, as far as I know. I'd like something simpler. I want to be able to launch apps from the remote instead of closing out of whatever I'm on and then scrolling to the next app. Does something like this exist?

Harmony hub here. On my family TV I put live channels in the left most slot under Google play store. Then I have the harmony do down, down, OK (I think, I can verify). This launches live TV whenever the Shield TV is turned on, works well for my wife since I replaced a set top box with it.

Why not just program a macro to open Netflix? I've added macros to open all my most common apps.

My TV remote works great. Channel +/- works in live channels, volume works from shield controller. No issues at all.

Older Sony 42 inch.

I have been using the Inteset 422 . I love it. I remapped the back button to the Guide button so when I am watching Vue it always just brings up however I got to the channel I am watching (Mini Guide, Guide, etc.)

I cannot launch apps, however.

As far a guide, I use the guide button from a Windows PC profile in my harmony. Works well with live channels.

This is a copy and paste from a comment I made a few weeks ago. Let me know if you have any other questions on the setup. I also created an activity to launch Vue.

"I have the shield TV with the harmony hub combination and it has been incredible. The harmony companion/hub also allows it to act almost like a cable box. I have the hub connected to the shield as a shield gaming console, windows computer, and fire tv remote via Bluetooth. Most of the commands are done by the standard shield commands, but I also set up the channel up/down command from the windows computer. This allows it to actually act like normally TV. You can scroll through your channels using up/down. Also I set up the menu command from the fire tv and it brings up the mini guide to go to my shows, previous channel, guide and search. As an added bonus I have the hub set up to double hit the home button to close out of vue when I turn off the TV to prevent me from reaching my 1TB Comcast Limit."

Why not the Nvidia Remote?
