Mibox stutter

by narselon

I recently got a MiBox because my Nexus Player has experienced frequent crashes, unable to display video at times, and sometimes the display vanishes for a few seconds.

On the Mibox I bc have noticed frequent stuttering in all video from 1080 up. This occurs in YouTube, live channels, and Netflix. This is also a problem when using Moonlight.

I've messed around with a few settings and factory reset the device but it is still there. I even upgraded my router f from n to ac.

Does anyone have any clue what's the problem? Is this a widespread issue or can it be fixed by exchanging the device?

Yup it stutters. Been running the Android 7 beta for a couple months now, and while it's better still doesn't fix it. You get what you pay for unfortunately and the Shield is just way too expensive for Android IMO. $99 and smaller than Shield would be perfect.

I have it too and can't get rid of it. No matter if it is on strong AC wifi or Ethernet. It seemed to have gotten worse in the last month for me. So I bit the bullet and bought a Shield for my bedroom(no more problems). So in my two main viewing areas I have Shields, no stuttering and fluid motion on Wifi or Ethernet. On the other 4 TVs, I have Miboxs. I can say that for live tv with hdhomeruns, the Instatv app with paid codec support works better than Live Channels using the HDHomerun app or network tuner. But Instatv has it's own quirks too. If you watch sports on a Mibox and use Hdhomeruns, Instatv is a must.

Only happened to me twice. Both times were because of heavy internet use on my extender. Once I moved other devices to my main router (but not the Mi Box), it was fine. Not sure why others have the problem.

Edit: make sure you reboot it once and a while if you don't put it to sleep. Some people like to keep it on 24/7.

Are talking about some kind of lag that happens once in a while, no matter what app you're using (YouTube, Plex, Amazon Prime, others) ? If yes, it seems I fixed mine by getting rid of unused apps and disabling some of the build in services. I had CPU stats running onscreen for debugging, but there was no spike when I lagged .. figured, it could be some background services pulling some data over the line.

I have it too. PS Vue is horrible. Kodi has audio delay issues, and Netflix keeps throwing up some error that I can't play the selected title. I love Android TV, but I'm going back to the Fire TV.

You should limit background processes to 4 and see if that helps. It did for me.

Also in another thread someone mentioned that the stutter might stem from HDMI issues, at least for audio as changing the output format from HDMI to PCI resolved some audio stutter, not sure if that's something that also draggs down video with it.

Another thing with regards to HDMI compatibility that I heard said was that decreasing video output from 60hz to 50hz solved the stutter problem for some people. I personally found that changing this setting resulted in funky Android TV behavior. My LG TV kept reporting that the signal is 60hz even though I've set it to 50hz in Android. But it seemed as if all video I was watching fell back to only 30fps.

Furthermore, my TV reports that the MiBox is CEC compatible, although it refuses to accept inputs from the TV's remote or wake/sleep when I turn my TV on/off. All those functions work well with my PS4. So overall one might say that HDMI implementation is highly unreliable in the MiBox. It might be the culprit.

I can't think of anything else.

I know this is old, but a factory reset seems to have fixed the stutter on one of my miboxes. I haven't heard or seen a stutter in 3 days now. It couldn't go 3 minutes previously. Ill keep monitoring it.

Happens to me too. I think there is nothing you can do.
