Sony Bravia Android TV sucks majorly

by BatTechCrazy

I don't think I could have had a worst experience. All my apps/video start jittering and lagging when I change the volume during playback . It gets really bad . Casting also is very hit or miss . I cast Telemundo Deportes a lot for soccer and at random the picture will freeze and start playing in a PiP type mode . It's really odd . Casting videos from websites is also very hit or miss . I'm pretty sure it's the Sony as I don't have any issues with my chrome cast but the chromecast can't do 4K . I've tried resetting it too because I've had random software issues with ATV, such as repeated apps .

Enable Developer Mode, and force the TV to run 4 apps in the background maximum. Helped a lot with smoothing out any stuttering I had. Restart the TV after you do it, and give it 5 minutes to settle before using it. After that, should be all good. Let me know how that goes.

To enable developer mode, find build number under the about section in settings, and double click on it 4 or 5 times.

I agree. I got a Sony Bravia Android TV in 2015. It's a total piece of shit. The TV stutters, lags, and is generally buggy. The MediaTek processor really struggles to run the TV. Even changing the volume is sometimes a hit and miss chore. I should have gotten a cheaper TV and a cheap laptop connected through hdmi

I have a Sony Bravia Android TV and it works great

I agree. Spending $800 for a tv, and they give you an awful SoC, ram, etc. There is no way to fix it. I bought a shield tv, and it works much better, but of course I still get software errors from the sony tv (like an app has stopped working) even though I dont use the tv for anything but on/off, volume, and input from the shield tv.

This! I have the exact same issues as you... So frustrating. Will try the developer mode thing...

I've hated this TV since I bought, not only does it run like garbage, the blacks are terrible and the flashlighting is out of control.

manfuckyoudude

Yeah it's terrible, I had to reset mine last week because it wouldn't stop giving errors and bootlooping. If I could I would pay extra to convert it to a "dumb" tv.

Agreed. I bought the XBR 850c and regret it every day.

humphreybc

Agreed. My experience with the Sony Android TV has been really disappointing. Real shame they didn't give it a decent processor or enough RAM because Android TV has a lot of potential.

whattheheck63

totally agree - we frequently cannot get into Netflix or Hulu or whatever for no apparent reason. The tv turns on by itself sometimes. And changing the channel is PAINFULLY slow.

I had an old sony Bravia that (before smart TVs) that lasted more than 8 years .. my 65 inch android TV has had so many issues that I'll never buy a Sony tv ever again

I've turned off all the Google on my Sony 90J, it took me almost a year but, I finally did it. Now, I can easily switch between PS5, ATV and the satellite box without seeing Shrek. What finally did it was the oh so obvious spyware google bakes into everything but, hey I guess I'm the only one offended. So before everyone goes nuts here, I do agree there is a huge loss of convenience on the TV without the apps. But, I also will say it does seem to run much smoother with the processor only concerned about delivering sweet sound and sights.

I think all Android TVs are absolute POS. I have a top-of-the-line Philips that is so laggy and unstable as to make it unusable. The only solution was to buy a Shield and control it via CEC.
