Looking to upgrade from Roku 3. Need advice.

My wife is annoyed that there isn't a YouTube Kids channel on Roku. My son is obsessed with YouTube but sometimes inappropriate videos pop up and it makes my wife crazy. Is there a streaming device that has the ability to install YouTube Kids? If it's an Android box will the box eventually become obsolete as newer versions of Android are released and the apps are no longer supported?

Android box =/ android tv box

I checked to see if the app was available for my Shield TV but it isn't right now. It looks like its only available for smart TVs made by Samsung, Sony, and LG.

"Google says Android TV support for the app will be released in the future, but it did not offer a specific release date."

Get an nvidia shield TV and don't look back.

YouTube kids is in development for Android TV right now.

Mi Box is good and I recommend. But if you want to spend the money for Shield you get what you pay for.

Any and all android boxes will become obsolete. Shitty Chinese company isn't in the business of support and maintenance. Also, you risk DRM nightmares where Netflix or Hulu or whatever may decide to stop working.

You could possibly sideload the YouTube kids app. May be wonky AF with the remote, though. But that goes for the shitty android box, too. He'll have to use the remote as a mouse to point and click.
