How best to take advantage of parents' Xfinity plan (not living in the home) when I have Android Tv?

by TooMuchDRM

So I have a LeEco Super4 X55 which has AndroidTv. However, I don't think Xfinity Stream works on it (haven't unpacked the TV yet). I have access to the Xfinity login info so I can stream on my desktop via Xfinity's Stream TV.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how I can stream Xfinity's stuff on my TV without having my own subscription. Is the only way to do this to use an HDMI cable from a PC? I'm not interested in Amazon Fire because they don't have HDR yet on the stick and it seems like Shield doesn't have Xfinity yet. Should I just wait until there's a better solution?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Using their login you will have access to almost every single network that has a network app to stream.

The actual xfinity app my not work outside of your parents wifi but most channels stand alone apps will work

Get a router on Amazon that works with DD-WRT and install a PPTP VPN on it. Then you could access every channel they have live using the xfinity website. Not every channel is accessable if you aren't on the same wifi network as the subscribers address. The VPN tricks it into thinking you are "home" and allows you to stream all of the channels they are subscribed to.

You could look at buying a slingbox and sideloading the slingplayer app. I do this currently and it works great.

I don't think there's an Xfinity app for Android TV, and even if there was, you would most likely only be able to use it from an Xfinity IP. Your best bet is individual channel apps like HBO Go, Showtime Anytime, etc. Most channels have them, though not all of them have Android TV ports.

If you find you can't access it, check out Vue, SlingTV, DirectTV Now, Google TV and Hulu Live. You can't share and it's $30ish a month (no added fees), but it's less than $100+ a month for cable. I use Vue on my Mi Box and it is great.

HBO Go will not work on Android TV with an Xfinity login. Comcast blocks it.
The Stream app will at least sideload, but it's very difficult to use without a mouse. It will almost be a necessity. Can the LeEco support one?

Also, you don't need to be on an xfinity IP to use the Stream app. It's kinda the whole point to be able to see the content when away from the home.

I highly recommend them making a sub-account specifically for you.

For example, the account that's set up with my parent's Comcast account is parents@comcast.net . I had my dad log into their account and set up a theirkid@comcast.net email address that I can use. This theirkid account works to log into any of the streaming services that ask for credentials.

The biggest benefit is if they change their password on their account, then mine still works and I never have to call them to get an updated password. It's also a lot easier to remember "my" password than it is "theirs."

In the IT world, this is akin to creating a "service account" and there are a tonnn of reasons to do so .

Do you have login info?
