Has anyone been able to play HBO or other DRM through the native Live Channels, HDHomerun or Plex apps?

by Noirad

I'm trying to finally cut the cord of my cable box, but I can't seem to get my HBO channels to play over my nvidia shield or through the HDHomerun app.

I my screen displays a "Weak signal" error message.

Has anyone out there been able to successfully watch DRM protected content on their shield through Plex, HDHomerun or Live channels?

I have to ask, why are you trying to watch static HBO channels when you can use the app and watch what you want when you want? I get the feeling that you're missing out on the point of Android TV.

You can't (currently) watch DRM channels through Plex or Live Channels.

I'm assuming you're using HDHomeRun Prime. Have you tried HBO on a computer? You might have to upgrade the firmware.

I have comcast and an HDHomeRun Prime and HBO/Showtime only works for my one the XBox One. I think it has to do with the way HDCP does the handshake.

I have the HDHomeRun Prime and a Comcast cablecard. HBO works fine for me on Live channels using the old (green) app and the new digital tuning function (blue). I only get the "weak signal" message when using the current HDHomeRun app (grey). I can also record the HBO channels using the built-in DVR (not the SiliconDust one).

Edited to add it has worked on the grey one as well, but it seems to be more picky about network traffic. I'm running on wireless. You may want to check your network configuration to see if that helps.
