Nexus Player or NVIDIA shield 5.1 HBO Now

by superm1

Has anyone figured out how to get it working? Their support documentation ( http://help.hbonow.com/app/answers/detailHBO/a_id/241/~/does-hbo-now-support-dolby-digital-surround-sound%3F ) claims it should work with Nexus Player if you receiver supports DD+. Mine (STR-DH770) definitely supports that, but I still get stereo audio.

I'm considering upgrading to an NVIDIA shield, but if it's still busted there might give up on AndroidTV and just go the Roku route.

Last I spoke with them they claim it works all find on their end. It never did on mind.

5.1 audio works through the Amazon app; I would just subscribe to HBO through that.

So, you're preparing for the new Game of Thrones season next month :)

You know, I have both a Roku 4 and a Shield, and I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do. (Damn you Comcast!)

HBO Now on my Shield, or HBO Go on my Roku 4?

Warning...

Be aware you will NOT get 5.1 DD Audio from Android TV Apps like Netflix and Amazon Video unless you are connected to a DD+ HDMI Audio receiver.

I would suspect other DD+ capable DRM streaming Apps to be the same.

This is an Android TV OS restriction, and on the Shield a significant issue due to the no Dolby Audio Licence.

I have the Shield and everything works properly, but I haven't tried the HBO app. I have the STR-DN1070.

I contacted their support and got this back:

This issue is scheduled to be fixed in a future update. You should be notified when that update is released.

Try casting from the android app.. I read that 5.1 works if you do that (altleast it does on Shield)
