HDMI CEC Possibilities / Capabilities

by hewellp

Hi! I have a Samsung KU6400 (2016) and I have a keyboard and a gamepad connect to the TV. My question is this, Can I use those devices trough HDMI CEC? I'll probably get a Xiaomi Mi Box in a near future to stream torrent movies or moonlight and I don't want to disconnect and connect my devices so... What do you say?

Thanks!

No, you'll have to move their receivers or resynchronization them to the mi box. CEC don't really expand outside basic navigation, power, and volume.

Mi box should work fine with Android TV app (ios/Android) which gives a full keyboard. There's also the voice search on the remote it ships with. If you're using Kodi, there's Kore remote which also gives text input.

CEC is mean to be used with a tv/bluray remote to get the most function from what i know, none the less my shield tv controller/remote do have a few control over CEC (volume to receiver; on/off on all devices). Isn't your mi box replacing what your tv does? then you won't need disconnecting devices

iirc, theoretically CEC can pipe basically full-form HID input, but i've certainly had mixed results.

that aside, there is probably like a 0% chance your tv is acting sufficiently well as a [usb] hid>cec injector.

i think there is a market for such an injection device. a quick google shows the reverse is already available (various cec>[usb] hid extractors).
