Playing 20,000+ bitrate files on Android TV

by jl94x4

Hi all. Long time user of an RPI where I direct played pretty much anything I tried from my server, however it does not support HEVC/4K.

I have since switched to a Xaomi Mi Box which arrived today. After setup, I installed Plex however any file I play above 20Mbps just stutters/buffers/slows down/juddery and generally unplayable, this means I cannot Direct Play anything above 20,000 bitrate (quite a problem as i have a lot of high rips on my Plex server). I have a 320Mb/s Internet connection so I highly doubt that's the problem, although the Mi Box is only wifi. When changeing "Original file" to "Convert to 20Mb/s" i get no issues.

I run a rclone/node-gdrive-fuse setup using Google Drive, and I can download files upwards of 10Mb/s from Plex on my wired PC, so I'm not really sure what the problem may be.

Can anyone shed some light or give ideas as to a way to fix this?

The Plex for Kodi app is the best way to go. I had to test that out myself about 2 weeks ago. Couldn't get any 4k to dp

Kodi has better AMLogic Hardware support for decoding various video codecs compared to Plex.

So leverage the power of Kodi decoding and use the Plex interface with the Addon.
