Anyone ever experience lag/stutter/jitter on Mi Box when playing 1080p downloaded movie?

by InsertCoinPushStart

When I play a ~2GB+ "1080p" movie, I sometimes get a stutter when its playing throughout the movie, eg. scenes where alot is changing on screen for example. Ive pinned it down to where this only happens with 1080p files. The latest beta update did not help.

Many factors go into how well a video plays. For instance, certain codecs do not have hardware decoding in Kodi .

In short, more info is needed.

Not even while playing 10 bit HEVC & connected wirelessly. Are you using VLC, MX Player or Kodi/SPMC? I had some issues with all types of files trying to use VLC before signing up for the beta version.

Is the movie on a USB hard drive, wireless hard drive, network drive, mi box, or flash drive?

I see the same thing here, but the stutter is really subtle. I did a factory reset on the box and the stutter is gone ... For now

Where are you? Are these all 30/60fps movies? 24fps looks terrible for me unless I manually switch it to 24hz first, then it's not too bad. If I screw with the TVs settings I can smooth it out but it creates 'bigger' artifacting, if that makes sense.

If you're in a 60Hz country 24fps looks bad, and AFAIK if you're in a 50Hz country, 30/60fps looks bad. Try to check the frame rate in vlc or just switch the mode and see if it looks smoother.

try playing it with vlc for android. if it still stutters, you may be able to enabled/disable hardware decoding in the vlc settings which may solve the issue.

weird. I play 1080p movies as big as 12GB and so far I haven't experienced stutters.

They're located on my external HD and I play them using Kodi

If this is lag/stutter/jitter is bothering you, unfortunately you will now notice it all the time.

There will be no fix for the Mi Box until Xiaomi brings out new Firmware to allow Apps like Kodi and Plex to dynamically switch a TV's refresh rate to match the fps (frames per seconds) of the video being played. All other Android Apps will still have this issue. You will have to put up with it.

The nVIDIA Shield already has this dynamic refresh switching working for Kodi/Plex and the AMLogic S905(x) LibreELEC Kodi boxes have this very well sorted as well if you value smooth 1080p/4K video playback - these are a bargain buy for Kodi.
