Old android TV box uses?? How to upgrade?

by agnus-ivims

Hey sorry if this has been asked a zillion times. I acquired an old android TV box, Viibox to be specific. Can I upgrade the android firmware to marshmallow and just download terranium TV apk and the likes? If so, any links to tutorials?

If you have any interesting suggestions of what else I can do with it, I'd love to hear!

Thanks :)

What has happened a zillion times is people asking about shitty Chinese boxes in Android TV. Which the fucking Viibox doesn't run.

It'll make a fantastic paperweight.

If only we didn't delete these types of questions, you'd have been able to see our responses to them.

You can't just update any old Android device to whatever version you want. The company that makes the device has to do it, unless there's enough support out there to warrant some random person compiling one. Thing is, the "company" that makes these Chinese junk boxes spent years trying to get an old ass version of Android to run on it. They've already got your money, so there's no reason for them to spend another couple years getting a new version built. I doubt there's enough of a user base to warrant a custom ROM being hosted on XDA but go ahead and take a look.

This is why you should be buying legit products, from legit OEMs, that use a legit living room operating system like Google's Android TV OS. You will actually get customer support from a company that has a reputation.

Put FTMC apk on there which is a fork of Kodi that works with Android 4 and add Terrarium apk too it. Ride it to the wheels fall off.

I know it's easy to give this person a hard time because they posted in the wrong forum, but if you don't live in the US, your options are limited. In Canada for example we can either drop $300 on a Shield, or $150 plus on a MiBox.

This is not an android TV box. It's a piece of junk box that connects to the TV and runs Android. I suggest using it as a skeet target.

If its an AMLogic Chipset:

Unofficial Android TV ROM's exist for various devices over on the Freaktab forum.
