Xbox One S Controller with Nvidia Shield Help

by dannymalt

I don't really like using the Nvidia Shield's controller. PS4 controller with Shield has some lag, so I don't like that either. I bought an Xbox One S controller because all the games reference the Xbox One controller anyways, it works well on PC, and I read it would work with the Shield .

Here is the problem, Xbox One S controller does connect with Bluetooth to Shield, but I booted up a few Game Stream games and the mapping is all messed up. From my google searching I found a mapping fix here on reddit but it requires rooting my Shield, which sounds too complicated and too much work for this one purpose. The Reddit post here with the root fix was made 11 months ago. I am hoping there is another solution? I find it ridiculous that this controller is not working, and there is not some easy app I can download that will fix the remapping. Is there an easy fix?

UPDATE : It's working. A lot of people said I had to update the Xbox One S controller. I plugged it into my PC and download the Xbox accessories app and it didn't have any updates, so I assumed I was up to date. My overall Windows did not say there was any updates either, but I found out I did not have the Windows 10 Creators Update installed, so I updated my PC by doing that, and when I used the Xbox Accessories app then, there was another update for the Xbox One S controller that it didn't have before I had the Creators Update installed. Once I updated it again, the mapping and stuff was finally fixed on the Shield.

TL;DR The fix is to update the Xbox One S controller with Xbox Accessories App, but make sure your Windows 10 is updated with the Windows 10 Creators Update (maybe just the Anniversary Update will work too). Then it should update fully, and will work with the Shield.

I am not having these problems.

I don't use the mappings from the post I made 11 months ago anymore. I just updated my shield and the xbox one s controller firmware using the accessories app in Windows 10 Anniversary edition.

I play a lot of stuff in Gamestream and everything (Except vibration) just works.

You need to update the controller either via connecting it to an Xbox or Windows PC, and updating the controllers firmware. Then it should work as expected on your Sheild.

Do you have the latest OS updates on your Shield? I understand the button mapping for the One S controller was fixed in one of those updates.

What sort of issues are you having with the SHIELD controller?

I had issues too with my Xbox One S controller and Nvidia Shield gamestream.

Make sure your Shield controller has the latest firmware. I also used Moonlight instead of gamestream and had better luck.
