Anybody else having problems with the Android TV Remote Control application?

I have a Shield TV and a Nexus Player. As of a month or two ago I can't connect to either using the remote app on my 6P.

Both show up under the manage connections menu but as soon as I select one it says connecting for a second then goes back to the manage connections screen. I tried downgrading to different versions of the remote app but they're all having the same issue.

Anybody else experiencing this?

UPDATE: Here's the fix

Settings > apps > Android TV Remote service (system app) > clear data > reboot

Then clear the app data from the remote app on your phone, and try to connect again.

yea same problem on Mibox, for months. it was working fine 6 month ago but not anymore. i'm using lineageOS and redmi note 3

Same issue here with two nexus player. It been a problem that has been reported months ago. The devs of the android app are sleeping at the wheel.

No problems here, running a Moto X 2014 Pure. My brother has a Moto G 3rd gen and his is working as well.
