Amazon Instant on Xiaomi Mibox 3 plays trailers, but not full films etc ?

by flipside1o1

HI All

I Have an international Mibox 3 running on the April Nougat Beta and have installed Android TV version of Amazon instant (Sony and NVIDIA versions) and they run fine. However, they will only play trailers when I try full tv or films I get a message telling me 'internet connection error'

Netflix and the BBC player play fine. Could this be a DRM issue?

All sensible troubleshooting suggestions gratefully received

Only Amazon approved TV devices (Android TV or not) can play full videos. Xiaomi have to make a deal with Amazon to make the app work in their device. It's a lengthy process so many OEM don't want to go to that hassle.

It is a DRM issue. The amazon player is super locked down and very few devices are given full access with the highest quality because of the DRM.

I wonder if anyone has tried installing the Amazon Underground app and accessing Prime video from that?

Only way to get HD (on the Beta OS) is to side load Chrome & login like you would via PC, same keyboard controls too.

Helps if you have an air mouse or a spare keyboard/mouse to use, because the stock remote is 💩

I just got home and checked. I'm watching an episode of the grand tour right now on Amazon video on my MiBox 4K.

I imagine what's stopping you is the beta Android OS because it's a "user debug" not "release" signed build. I'm still on Marshmallow.
