Guide to setting up Live Channels for Android TV with full EPG with Vaders (or any subscription service that supplies an M3u list

by allanfarrell

Please note this is for Android TV boxes (Shield, Sony TVs,Mibox, Nexus player etc.), will not work on the generic android boxes.

I also have this posted in the IPTV subreddit, if having it in two is a problem please feel free to delete.

Benefits: Live channels is integrated into the OS,VOICE search/switching "go to hbo" and it switches channels to HBO from anywhere in the OS, no having to go in and out of kodi etc., channels switching is instantaneous, channels still plays in background as you browse home screen, PIP

And when it's up and running, should resemble the video below https://youtu.be/l4KVpQa9sr0

Benefits: Live channels is integrated into the OS, no having to go in and out of kodi etc., channels switching is instantaneous, channels still plays in background as you browse home screen PIP, homescreen recommendation for programmes on at present, multitasking channels.

Upon checking IPTV-EPG more closely, I saw that you can edit the M3U within the site. Have you tried that? I'm wondering whether the Xtream-Editor subscription is still needed if an edited m3u file can be generated within Xtream-Editor. This would mean less upfront cost (which I already shelled out lol) and not having to switch between sites anymore.

I don't to go through the process again. For about $10 a year which I already paid for, I'm just going to retain my current setup but this might be helpful to others who are thinking of doing this.

Thank you

Can you provide the apk for TVirl? My Google Play is not working and I can't find this apk anywhere.

question - how reliable are these services?

And I noticed that you have 2 options - Vaders or stream center - which do you recommend?

allanfarrell

Correct. Literally just follow the guide after you have signed up for whatever service you like. Click on wherever they supply the m3u list. You don't need to save it or download it. Just copy the URL of the playlist into xtream editor at the point in the guide.

First thing you need to do is sign you for the iptv service though.

Be warned, if you are new to all of this it will take a long time to get through it!

Awesome, I had tried to get this working a few months ago using Cumulus, but it was constantly crashing and I didn't have an EPG solution.

I noticed that xtream gold offers EPG, and their naming convention looks very similar to IPTV-EPG. I wonder if that would provide the same service for less $$?

Thanks for this. Just set up mine. It took awhile (matching the EPG-ID between iptv-epg and xtream) but having a traditional guide with detailed description and fast channel switching is awesome. The ability to re-order and add/remove channels from the guide using the xtream-editor is awesome. I can tailor my guide depending on the season (e.g. disable NBA channels during the offseason, re-enabling it when the season starts).

Thanks again.

If new channels are added by the provider, do we need to refresh TVIRL in Android TV to have the new channels in the guide? I'm asking since the sport schedule from my provider is being added daily as separate "channels" per game. I do not need EPG for these channels since the channel name indicates already the game that will be shown. I just need these special channels to be added/removed to the guide whenever updated by the provider. Not sure if TVIRL has an automatic refresh functionality.

Update: It looks like automatic sync is not in the current version yet but is in the work for a future release. Almost have a perfect setup but this will work for me in the meantime. Will post screenshots of my setup later.

I just tried this process myself, following the guide (thank you so much!) and I can confirm that the guide and m3u link generated from just EPG for IPTV works by itself in perfect player, I haven't tried it in live channels yet. It populates a full EPG and channels set up as you have defined it. You can switch groups, change orders, combine lists etc.

However it has a quirk of not always loading the full m3u list properly like when the channel is empty, i.e ppv or other sports channels where as X-tream editor will load it just fine everytime even if empty.

Funny thing is, when I try this with the X-tream editor, using the same list, same channels selected and matched to their EPG, using it's generated URL's only the EPG doesn't populate properly. Even though in the editor all the channels show they are matched, they won't show up.

Unfortunately until the issue is sorted out, it seems you will have to use both softwares (As per the guide) unless you are fine with the quirks of EPG for IPTV.

Thanks a lot. This was extremely helpful to finally get my playlist organized and I am really grateful for sharing this very thorough guide.
