Sony bravia Kd-55xd8505 + 4k x265 10bit

by lixenstrand

Hey guys, just one question because I'm trying to rule out what the problem is. Should my TV be able to handle 4k HDR x265? I'm using vlc and there is no stuttering like it was before kodi had the option, where no sound comes thru and it's all stuttering. This is more like something haven't enough time to send/processing the data.

I'm connected to a windows 10 server with smb and a cat6 network cable.

If the TV should be able to process my file, what's the other things I should check so I can start ruling stuff out?

Thanks for the help!

I have the KD-55X8505C, and I can only play those files smoothly via USB. When using SMB it always stutters a bit.

Upnp from Plex should force direct play. But make sure your model tv is gigabit. My 700d is 10/100 and AC wifi is better for me

In my experience (with a 49" 800D), it will not play 4K HDR H265 files over DLNA/SMB using VLC. I'm not going to fault it for it, however, since my 15" top of the line mid 2014 MacBook Pro can't play them over the network or locally either. Nor can my Xbox One S nor Surface Pro 3 i7. Every single one of them either stutters or crashes.

In fact, the only device I have that successfully plays 4K HDR H265 files properly is my Sony XZ Premium phone, and it does it over wifi from the same DLNA server using VLC and MX Player Pro. What's interesting is that even seeking is really quick on this device. And I can actually mirror the phone's screen to the TV, and it continues to play the video on the phone screen and TV just fine. How is that even possible when all these other more powerful devices are not even able to play the video, nevermind deal with seeking or two screens? I just don't understand that at all.

Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate for Windows/Mac is highly recommended. It can transcode any Sony TV unsupported A/V codec to supported one and convert any format to Sony playable one.

Batch conversion is a surprise feature which allows you batch convert H.265 video to Sony TV supported video directly. With it, you can convert H.265 4K as well as 4K XAVC/XAVC S, 4K MP4/MOV/MXF, etc for playback on Ultra HDTV(Samsung Smart TV, Sony Bravia TV, Panasonic Viera TV, LG 3D/LED/LCD TV and so on) freely.
