Purchasing the Mi Box from EU?

by nu1mlock

Hello,

I found the Mi Box from Geekbuying but I'm not sure which version I should pick.

I'll basically only use it to watch Netflix and occasional use of Kodi.

Their "HK Stock" version is almost half price - what's the difference? Will I be able to use Netflix and 4K with it or is it somehow limited due to something-I-don't-know-anything-about?

Is there a reason I would want to buy their "Germany Stock" version?

Thank you!

The correct Android TV licenced version of the Mi Box is Model: MDZ-16-AB

Plenty EU options here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=275083

All the rest are for domestic Chinese consumption, that are not even Netflix approved hardware - so you will be lucky if you get even 480p Netflix if you can even install Netflix in the first place that is.

4K Netflix may work on the Mi Box if you have good Home AC WiFi. Otherwise buy the official Xiaomi USB to Ethernet Adapter as well.

I used Geekbuying and got the HK version (delivered to TH though) as it is closer to my current country of residence. HK and German stock (before it was Spain stock) are both the same. One thing to consider when purchasing HK stock is import duties though, as you will need to pay them when ordering in HK and delivering into EU, whereas there are no duties when ordering from German stock (logically). Hence the price difference.

I bought mine from geekbuying "international version" and IT was chinese. I returned it and bought one from lightinthebox and everything is ok

Always found geekbuying to be shaky, not shady. Well intentioned but very poor in execution and very disorganized.

Lack of timely responses and poor English comprehension got them on my blacklist long ago. Seems things have not improved over the years.

See http://freaktab.com/forum/advertisers-and-vendor-support-area/geekbuying-com for many sad narratives about their customer support

Bought mine from ebay Germany and was sent from Germany. Around 10€ for 2 day shipping was worth it for me
