"qwerty" on-screen keyboard replaced with "abcdefg" layout on Shield.

This has been infuriating me for some time now, but I'm not sure if this is something I did, or if it happened during an update. My "qwerty"-layout on-screen keyboard is gone, replaced with an alphabetical "abcdefg" layout, like this... 

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

I can't enter text like that after years of typing.

On my Nexus Player in another room, the keyboard is still "qwerty". Both are running Android N.

Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a setting somewhere I can change to get my "qwerty" layout back?

I think the new Gboard app used the Alphabetical order. That is what might be causing it.
