Why can't I change channels on the new Youtube app?

by kgeissler

My Shield just got updated to the new Youtube app. The problem is that I have 3 channels under my login. The app won't let me choose the channel I want to use, so I am stuck being logged into an account that I don't use. Anyone figure out how to change channels under the login?

This is total bullshit, how wasn't this tested for. I'm going to revert the app to the older version

It absolutely blows my mind that this was missed or purposely left off. The app is completely worthless without the ability to sign into my secondary username where I keep literally everything.

The worst part is that for as long as I've had this TV I have been unable to watch live video of any kind at a resolution higher than 240p due to some unknown bug and this update finally fixed it but it was all for nothing as I had to immediately revert back to the old version to get my channels back.

This and not being able to manually set quality, renders this "app" useless for me.

anyone know any twitter handles of their project team?

What the s#*t! I can't access my secondary user on my google account (which is my main youtube account for >7 years). I can't view any of my YT subscriptions! This is a disaster! How can i fix this? Is it possible to revert to the previous version of the app???

Upvote as I'm having the exact same issue. It won't show my default channel and doesn't let me change it manually.

So, I'm currently sat here adding all my subscriptions to the main channel it's showing.

On your shield you can still do something. Go to your PlayStore and find the Youtube app..Uninstall the updates and you will be back with the default that will has the option for HD and chose channel!!

with all the surprise changes YT constantly make i wonder if this is intended behavior that hasnt been rolled out elsewhere yet... they're slowly turning to sh**

ive uninstalled the update and provided feedback, im not holding my breath it'll change anything though

CraziFuzzy

Thank God that I can Uninstall Updates, otherwise, the loss of all my subscriptions by not being able to switch to the right channel would be crushing.

This was the official post about the update from the YouTube Community Manager on the Google Help Forums.

I tried disabling my base youtube account as I literally don't use it, problem still persists though the account is disable on the actual youtube website..

I fucking hate this update - Jfc. I'm glad I can downgrade.

Same issue, it sucks since now I can't go from watching something on my phone to my AndroidTV. Oh and then fact that my subscriber list is empty isn't doing me any good either.

Lol it's a shortcut to the site www.youtube.com/tv

This is no update.

These lazy ones are killing off the YouTube Android TV app lol.

No 4k. No multiple accounts. No HDR support.

Lol

They should have not spent their time copy pasting this shortcut haha. Should have said " hey, we don't care that uve spent some $$$ on a Android TV or shield... Now u can access our app ( site) in the Opera browser. Just type www.youtube.com/tv !!"

I can't believe this sheeeet haha

I had the same problem but I only had one other channel. I ended up just merging it into my main Google account. Not ideal but apart from rolling back the app or waiting for a patch it's the easiest option. Irreversible though so keep that in mind.

Here's how https://youtu.be/k9Ul8rsXzkY

same here, this is insane.

They always pull shit like that!

hewsdaddy

what a dumb update

mrSimon34

Until they figure this out, try this.

  1. Go to Youtube on a desktop PC.
  2. Click your user icon, and select the channel you want to use as your default login.
  3. Click your user icon again, then click the settings cog.
  4. Visit the 'advanced' section in the Name row.
  5. Read the "Default channel" section, and proceed if it all sounds good.

I thought I was going mad. I'm almost glad I'm not the only one.

CraziFuzzy

Well, I guess updates will be permanently disabled for me.
