New Android TV Update; No more "Youtube" accounts?

by AskJayce

As some of you may or may not have noticed, the Android TV app has been updated and the UI now matches the Youtube app typically found on Sony consoles. I'm fine with the UI change, but for some reason, I can't access my "Youtube" account, only my "Google" one. This is disconcerting to me because all of my history and playlists are on my Youtube account.

Has anyone gotten around this?

New YouTube app is such a piece of shit - it seems that a native Android app was replaced by the HTTP shit used on other TVs. The UI is just terrible.

Edit: Doh, meant HTML obviously.

Not sure if this will work for everyone, but on my Sony Bravia I went into settings>apps and uninstalled Youtube app. it reverted to the one that comes with the original OS. I'm guessing this will work until the Android OS on my TV gets a new update. This has to be an oversight. Otherwise its like stepping back to when each gmail account had one youtube channel. Its either an oversight or another one of those hipster intern projects they do for a while, until they get tired and stop supporting it.

I thought all youtube accounts were Google accounts.

For us who have Android tvs like Sony:

The worst is no 4k. No HDR.

It was promised by Sony that our tvs would have HDR support. How will this SITE send a message to the tv that's playing HDR content? It's just a browser. The tv won't get any messages from the YouTube thing.

They did this without even noticing they were hurting Sony in the process . LOL

I have been using SmartYoutubeTV where someone used the web interface as well. It allows you to use your original YouTube account but isnt as snappy. Search for it. Definitely needs some work though (but all he is doing is running the web app)
