Looks like no more 4K on the new YouTube app for Mibox

by Va_Fungool

So just got the new YouTube update , the UI matches similar to the PS4

Problem is nothing runs in 4k. They took away the ability to choose the resolution and it's automatic based on connection.

Before the update 4k 30fps videos worked fine no problem (4k 60fps never worked on YouTube for me for some reason, yes I have hdcp 2.2)

No all 4k videos run at 1080p max and never go to 4k.

You can verify this by enabling stats for nerds.

This is a terrible update.

I'm seeing 4k@60fps on 4k content on my Shield with the new update. Very few videos are 60fps but I'm seeing it in the ones that are. What is your connection speed showing? You sure your Mi Box hasn't reset to 1080p?

eisoniq

Yes, have the same on my Sony TV, sometimes they become 1440p, and my connection speed on YouTube is 50Mbps (but when I speedtest on my TV it's around 120Mbps...). So, I think YouTube somehow doesn't use our full internet speed.

Another Sony 4K TV owner here. 6 week old 65x900e and I have Comcast Blast internet speed, but 4K videos in this new update keep defaulting to 1440p with no way to change it. I could learn to live with the new UI, but this is unacceptable. Thankfully you can uninstall updates on AndroidTV. Terrible update. Worse in pretty much every way.

I was banging my head against the wall trying to find the option for changing dispaly on the new youtube update on my mi box, stats for nerds also shows dispaly only at 1080.

Same... can’t play 4K video with my MiBox with new YouTube update, I just revert to old version and works fine again.....

my mibox shows some YouTube videos in 4k and others not in 4k when I know that if I go online all of them are available in 4k, anybody else have this issue?

Damn this is bad news... That's one of the reasons I loved the mibox as I could never get my TV's youtube app to automatically play in 4k. Edit: Just tested and I can't even get 2k and it shows 30mbs as connection speed. I rarely had any issues with playing 4k on the old app as I could force the resolution.
