ive been looking at things like lightberry and ambiscreen.
Currently I'm looking into an HDMI-only hardware solution like DreamScreen to go between my receiver and my TV. That way a.) no buggy platform specific software to rely on, b.) it therefor can work on anything with HDMI, including my Nintendo Switch. I haven't tried it yet, but reviews are fairly positive.
I have Hue Lights which you can use your phone or a tablets camera to give the ambient light effect. I do wish there was an Android TV app that worked with Hue Lights though.
If you are looking for an "Ambilight" solution like Phillips then you are on the right track. There are easy all in one solutions coming to market or already exist like DreamScreen HD/4K kits or Lightpack 2 TV/TV UHD sets. I'm personally waiting for the Lightpack 2. Both of these are simple and easy to setup, where you basically plug your HDMI sources into the provided splitter and connect that to your TV. Count your LEDs and set them in their respective apps and you are set.
You can always DIY your own solution and use Hyperion to get your lightshow setup. It can be a fun project but it can also be tedious if you aren't familiar with code, Linux, or soldering. I'm not sure what the current situation is when it comes to DRM'd media being played using these DIY solutions such as the Lightberry.
I hope this offers some insight. You weren't very specific with what kind of info you actually needed.
