Media player with subtitles scrapping / automatic download / please don't suggest Kodi

by mediacenterfreak

I am looking for something to replace Kodi. Kodi is way too much for what I need but I really appreciate the subtitle scrapping feature it had (Kodi match the file name and length on subscene and download the subtitle for me) and it's network playing feature.

I am also looking on versatility for file format.

I tried plex, but the subtile download services are crappy (plug-in without too much option most of the time it doesn't give me captions).

Oh and another thing that I dislike about Kodi. The name!! XBMC was just fine :) Kodi feels lame to pronounce ;)

I don't have any experience with it but you could try Emby.

I'm going to suggest Kodi anyways, because I guarantee it can be set up in a way that is not "too much" for anyone. Kodi is a PITA to set up, but once done, it's fine.

Your options for network play & automatic subtitles on AndroidTV are pretty much Kodi or Plex. You might be able to do it with Emby, but I don't know for sure.

Kodi is very customisable, if you feel like it's "too much" try a simpler skin (like the FireTV one) or changing the settings to hide stuff you don't use.

Setting up Plex to get it all working seamlessly (particularly subtitles) can be a bit of a faff, but it tends to work for me nearly all of the time now (I prefer to use Plex).

Did you try the SubZero subtitle agent with Plex? It has quite a lot of options for downloading subs.
