No audio in Google Play Movies

My Shield TV it doesn't play any audio from movies or TV shows purchased from Google anymore . It worked last week, but when I went to watch Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Rick and Morty this week it is now silent.

I have audio in all the other apps such as hulu, netflix, amazon prime. I can even hear the UI click sounds in Google Play Movies. It appears to affect all purchased content or at least all of the ones I tried. Playing movie trailers work though. I tried clearing cache data for the app and still had the same problem. I did find that if I uninstall updates to Google Play Movies the sound comes back. Once it updates, the sound goes away.

I tried casting from my Galaxy Tab S3 and there was audio.

I don't have any special setup, just HDMI connected to receiver. Any one else seen this before? Suggestions?

I had, I'm assuming, the same issue with my Mi Box. All I did was reboot and it fixed the issue. Have you tried that yet?

I can hear sound in trailers so it seems that if the movie or show is using Dolby Digital +, I get no sound. I can also hear sound when playing through youtube (forgot that purchased movies/tv show up in youtube), but I don't think this is in 5.1.

This is the older Shield TV with infrared. If I take the newer one (without infrared) from the spare bedroom and plug it in, I hear sound and the receiver shows Dolby+. All of the settings on the shield regarding audio are identical on both units.

The update on google play movies says it came out back in July, so I am not sure if my shield updated this week or has been updated and something else is causing no sound to play.

Very frustrating...

Fixed it by factory resetting. Hopefully it stays fixed and the problem doesn't come back.

Exact same problem here on Sony x8500d android tv sending sound via ARC to receiver. Everything was working fine until recently. It still outputs 2 channel sound for trailers but when I try to play the movie itself I get nothing. I uninstalled app updates (reverted to the original version) and sound is back but only in 2 channel because my current app version is so old. I've tried updating to the latest version but same problem. Too bad I can't get back to the version before the current one.
