TIL: Button Remapper works on Android TV. Allows you to remap applications and shortcuts to long press, double click and single click on nearly all buttons on the remote control

Have you tried this? I used External Keyboard Helper to map applications too the "F" keys on a keyboard, but unfortunately it means I have to change my keyboard every time I want to use the on screen keyboard (like to search for something).

Does this retain the on screen keyboard?

Would this work with my actual Sony Bravia remote? To remap some buttons on it to launch a specific app? It's Bluetooth, so I'm guessing the answer is yes.

Also, what kinds of "shortcuts" are we talking about? Where/how are these shortcuts created?

I'm not following this at all..can someone explain. What buttons will it remap? On any remote?

Very interesting. I had tried Multilanguage Keymap Redefiner, but I didn't keep it since it screwed up the on-screen keyboard. Will this allow me to remap remote buttons and still keep the onscreen keyboard as-is?

couldn't install in on my mibox through play store. i'll try to play with it after i get it off one of those apk sites.

Does it work with the TV remote control and HDMI CEC?

Can confirm this works on a Mi Box after a reboot. Not everything works though, e.g. Play/Pause doesn't work for me.

Thank you for bringing this up. My universal remote doesn't have a Home Button for the Mi Box (very annoying), now I remapped the Menu Button as the Home Button.

Im using Gen 1 fire stick remote with my Nvidia shield. Is there anyway to trigger the Google assistant mic with this? My fire stick doesnt have a mic button but I do have a usb mic connected to my shield. I just need a way to trigger it.

I installed it in on a 2017 Shield TV and it works ok for the most part. However, some apps like Youtube are super wonky. Random fast forwards on app open, can't go back etc. Issue resolves as soon as I turn off the button mapper service so it is definitely the Button mapper service interfering. Most apps like Hulu, Netflix etc work great.

Can anyone advise on a resolution cause it would be an awesome app if this is fixed!

Can this app map a function key (like F4 key of a regular keyboard). This F4 key is needed to see the resolution screen in netflix app. With my Xiaomi MiBox I can plug a regular usb keyboard to it and hit F4 to check if netflix app is running at 1080p. Thank you!

So I know this thread is a month old, but I just installed the app today since I recently received a Fire TV remote.

I paired it with my Shield and while all the buttons work for the most part, the 'Select' or 'Enter' button on the remote is not recognized in one app in particular (Amazon Video).

I thought by using this app I could remap the 'Select' button on the remote, but as far as I can see the remapping options under 'Actions' are pretty limited and there's no option for remapping a key to 'Select' or 'Enter'.

Is there a way around this in this app or do I need to look elsewhere?

I was able to successfully remap the rewind and fast forward keys on the remote to volume down and up though which is pretty handy.

Will remapping affect all remotes paired to the Android TV or can you do just one?

Max_Roc

I know this is old but wanted to see if you would know. So I've remapped fire stick ffwd and rwnd buttons to control volume. Works great until using it within apps like netflix and hulu it will perform both rwnd/fwd and volume functions at the same time and turns into a mess. Is there anyway to prevent it from using original command so it only does volume?
