What's the best android tv box for less than $100?

by prostitutepiss

Want to cut the cord. Right now I just have a Netflix account. But I'd like a box that gives me access to Netflix, Kodi, and any and all other streaming services that are good that I might not know about. I would like for it to have audio out options to connect speakers in the future. I would like it to have Wifi, 4K, and internet browser capability (possibly with included qwerty keyboard). Bluetooth so I can stream music from my phone to the box I would like if that's a possibility. Those are the features I can think of off the top of my head that I'd like. Budget: $100 So cord cutters what's the best option for me?

Mi Box

Looks like the Mi Box or a used Nvida shield is he way to go. Looking at Mi Box options in Canada (amazon.ca) I see theee different models and 3 different models. I'm confused as to which one would be the best for the price point. Can someone help me out with these options?:

Option 1: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B06XJF14DY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1502934802&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=mi+box&dpPl=1&dpID=41kJ67flLCL&ref=plSrch - $139

Option 2: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00NBW0V7G/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1502934802&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=mi+box&dpPl=1&dpID=41qJjdPtImL&ref=plSrch - $89

Option 3: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B06XPD1MLT/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1502934802&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=mi+box&dpPl=1&dpID=41GFpHWR%2B2L&ref=plSrch - $109

Quit buying Tim Hortons and save the extra money so you can buy an Nvidia Shield. B-)

Thanks for the replies so far guys. Looks like 2 votes for the Mi Box and 1 vote for the Nexus player. Sounds like Mi Box is quite liked.

Quick question, which one would be better for gaming? It talking anything too intensive just small games me and a girlfriend could play together.

Another quick question. Sounds like everyone here is liking the Mi Box, the front page of this subreddit has so many posts related to Mi Box as well. My question is if the Mi BOx is so well regarded why is that when I search best android tv Box in google I get all these top 10 lists that don't include the Mi Box? For example: https://www.fabathome.org/best-android-tv-box/ https://wiki.ezvid.com/best-android-tv-boxes

mi box although it has serious Plex issues and no Amazon, but otherwise decent.

just a question.. I already have 2 mi boxes.. and my friend is selling me his old nexus player for $35 with no remote.
I want to know if this box can handle HEVC? if yes, can it do 1080p?

So for all those recommending the old Nexus Player ?

The Intel Atom Z3560 in this old hardware does not support Hardware decoding of any h.265 (HEVC) content !

All you would need to play is any 10bit HEVC and you would bring the Nexus to its knees screaming for mercy.

Modern ARM Chipsets in the Shield and Mi Box Hardware decode these HEVC compression formats easily.

Do not rely on Software decoding of HEVC if you want reliable video playback of HEVC on old Hardware.

An Android TV box will, by far, be more satisfying UX-wise, than the loads of china-boxes that you'll find in /r/settopboxes unless you're a Chinese speaker.

An Android TV box is what you choose if you use premium (usually US based) streaming services.

If you know for sure that you'll never use Netflix, Hulu or HBO, and if you will be fine using an airmouse or other pointing device, rather than a usual directional remote, you have a lot more options that are nearly as powerful as nvidia's Shield TV, but... in that case, you're unfortunately in the wrong sub-reddit...

Quick question: Can I install an emulator on MiBox and run old games?

rahduke

without question MiBox in my opinon. I've messed with basically every android box/stick that's come out since china first started making them. MiBox kills em all, I have two shieldtv's and in some ways I prefer the mibox over them.

Mi box with a $10 keyboard remote.
