Is this box good enough for my needs?

by Diogopm

Hello!

I have never owned an android box nor anything similar. I am looking for a cheap way to watch netflix, stream twitch and play movies from a pen drive.

I saw this box called rockchip tx2 (2gb ram). Would this be good enough to stream netflix and twitch with no lag / slowness?

Regarding remotes, can I just pick any box tv related remote or does it need to be specific?

Thank you for your time guys.

Not an andriod tv device

It will probably be just fine if you can live with Netflix only streaming at SD resolution, same as a crappy phone screen (480 resolution, at best)

OR

you can get a $69 MiBox MDZ-16-AB and stream Netflix at HD (1080) or UHD, depending on your output devices.

Generic boxes such as the one you mention are considered toys and most users here have graduated to more capable official AndroidTV devices.

One of the prime reasons is to run Netflix at its best possible resolution, a factor that disqualifies the generic toys.

Don't waste your money on illegitimate, unsupported, unreliable junk that won't run Netflix at the max picture quality Netflix intended.

This sub is a Discussion of Android TV devices.

ADT-1
Nexus Player
Nvidia Shield
Razer Forge TV
Xiaomi Mi Box

Anything else is NOT Android TV.

I think theres a twitch app on Firestick, honestly the cheapest box with the least amount of aggravation has gotta be the Firestick, its basically a reskinned Android TV box

We don't recommend Android boxes here. We discuss the Android TV operating system which is a fork of Android made by Google to be optimized for the living room. We can definitely recommend you an Android TV device instead, though.

That Box will come with an Infra Red only remote that will not even work properly with the Apps on it.

A seperate purchase Wireless Air mouse would then be required and even then the tablet/touchscreen Apps are a right royal PITA to use on TV screen.

Android TV devices come with simple Wireless Voice remotes and have Android TV specific Apps custom designed for use with those simple remotes on a TV screen.

Best way to torture yourself and non-tech family members is to buy a generic tablet Android OS box that needs a PITA Air Mouse.

As already advised get a proper Android TV box.
