Mi Box or Nexus Player?

by -yossarian-

I would like to get another Android TV box but don't want to spend another $199 for another Shield TV (I have one of these in my living room already). My bedroom TV isn't 4K so that's not a factor here. I've previously had a Nexus Player and loved it but I let my ex keep it. My concern on the Mi Box is so/so reviews and slow updates while the Nexus Player just got updated to Oreo. Any other reasons I should be considering a MiBox over a Nexus Player? Mainly going to be using it for Plex and casting music/YouTube from my phone.

Mi Box should be just fine for your uses. It's not the best but it's not the worst. I really like the remote for it.

I just bought the Nexus player off ebay. I upgraded it and so far I like it. My issue with both the Mibox and Nexus player is no Ethernet port. I am big on being hard wired. So my choice in order Nvidia, Firetv box, Nexus Player, FireTV stick, Mibox

Have you tested the difference between wireless and USB Ethernet dongle

I use Mi Box (with Android 7.0 eternal beta) and overall it's great for my uses. Basically only use Netflix, Kodi, YouTube, RetroArch, Spotify, Google Cast, and X-plore and they all work great.

Would gladly pay $99 for a Pixel Player if that ever happened.

Nexus player for me. Mi box is still on marshmallow..nexus player will if not already receive Oreo.

Typically bugs that occur on the MiBox, dont reproduce on the Nexus Player.

I own both and the two annoyances I have with the MiBox, the audio can stutter a tad every few minutes, but only happens with Kodi. The NBC News app struggles, then crashes. Its nice getting all the NBC headline news at the end of the day, but I can only view this on the Nexus Players.

I agree I have no issues and have AC wireless. I just prefer hard wire
