Best IPTV experience?

by mandelkubb

Hi there,

I just got my Mi Box and I'm looking for a nice IPTV app with a good looking UI.

I have tried Google Live Channels, but the app will just list all channels in a long list, which makes it difficult if you have over 5000 channels. I have also tried the Perfect Player and an app called "IPTV" but they're both lacking when it comes to a good looking UI.

Do any of you have a recommendation?

It's funny that Kodi always finds its way to the list even though it has such an inferior, primitive experience IMO. Any IPTV plugin I've used (lately for FAB) requires 10 clicks and loads to watch a channel. Even with thousands of channels, Live Channels is so fast I can scroll and tune-in in seconds. Kodi's got nothing on AndroidTV's native interface.

What's happening to you is common enough as the providers don't always sort their lists in the M3U. Also, I'm not sure if TvIRL supports it fully.

You could always use STBEmu and you'll have something much closer to a snappy TV experience. If you're ok with a late 90s experience, by all means stick with Kodi.

Let the downvotes begin, kids. The truth hurts.

Edit: It... it's...It's happening!

I use PVR IPTV Simple Client within Kodi.

This app is awesome, a little unstable mas awesome! You can load your IPTV list and watch it on Google Live Channels.

Live Channels app using https://github.com/googlesamples/androidtv-sample-inputs compiled to replace the xml url with your own.
I built a small nodejs app to parse and combine an m3u and XMLTV file. It filters the list to only the channels you want and sets categories.

Kodi and Vader Streams.

5000 channels?!? Why do you need so many?

ProgTV is my favorite. SSIPTV is very simple and useful for m3u playlist.

Like the OP I'm also looking for the best solution for my paid IPTV service on my MiBox.

Kodi is ok, but one can't timeshift nor record on the MiBoX. I have tried NEXTPvr as backend, but it's unstable and crashes too much.

ProgTV is very nice and can record and do timeshift, but the lack of a proper EPG overlay on the channels you are watching, is a big let down. This leads to a frustrating navigation interface.

The app I use the most at this stage is Perfect Player. Enabling "Show EPG" will overlay the EPG nicely and is easy to access without going through tons of clicks. it makes it easy to switch to different categories and channels. What it lacks though is the ability to do proper timeshifting / pausing and record streams. The other let down is that the developer seems uninterested to add those aforementioned features.

Also tried TVirl and it is cool. It pulls through the M3U list and EPG through and adds channels to Live Channels. The Live TV channels app is probably the best looking. Interface is good and the EPG overlay looks very nice as well. Again the inability to record and do proper time shift is a let down. The fact that it's still in testing phase makes this a very good option and suggestions to the developer can still be made.

PlayStation Vue is good. DirectTV Now, Hulu Live, and YouTube TV are also choices.

If your looking for free, good luck in reliability and nice UI. PlutoTV is the only one that is decent that I can think of.
