Mi Box has never been great at handling 4K anyway unfortunately. I just have mine set to 1080p and accept it for what it is. Don't have a good answer for you though, YouTube 2.0 was a big disappointment.
You are probably using the latest not so greatest version known as Version 2. A web wrapper youtube no one asked for.
Uninstall it and disable auto update on Google Play.
But if you're running version 1.0. Press the HD button. It will then show you what resolution you're on.
