Nexus Player vs Mi Box anyone??

by C0rdt

I was considering getting a Mi Box because the Nexus Player is getting pretty tired with only 1gb ram....plus Netflix has been randomly crashing or stopping for no apparent reason lately.

I don't have a 4k TV so that part doesn't really matter but if anyone here has used both boxes what is your opinion on the two? What are the major differences (if any) and are there any potential deal breakers with the Mi Box that I should be aware of?

I haven't tried the Nexus player but I have the mi box.

For me it's great.

Netflix plays great in 1080. Put xbmc on it with two external hard drives (using a hub) and plays all files with no problems.

It's so easy to use my mother in law managed it.

And it plays through an a/v receiver no problem at all.

It's a much nicer experience than the Android boxes you see. The only better option is the shield, but at that price it should be.....

Just buy the MiBox you fat faced slob

I have both and I can say that Mibox is better. Not only is faster, it also supports HEVC which is great, the Nexus can handle some HEVC videos but artifacts are noticeable and it stutters from time to time.

Btw, try doing a factory reset on your Nexus to get rid of the Netflix crashes, that worked for me.

My nexus player is being a real piece of shit lately. Netflix crashes all the time, HBO constantly buffering. I have to do a factory reset like once a month to make it usable. I would go MiBox or bite the bullet and buy a shield.

NP if you want updates and 1080p with some lag

MiBox if you want no updates and 4k and no lag

Has Mi Box anounced if there will be an update for Android O? would be my major question, though apparently some people don't like the new update. We know for sure there will be for Nexus Player and Shield

I have MiBox. Got the Nexus for my parents.

MiBox is slightly better. Has no software induced lag. And it's not discontinued...

I replaced my nexus with a mibox wouldn't go back

Apparently Android "O" on the Nexus will heal the sick, part the seas and auto Mail Order you a never ending supply of free Pixel branded Google "beer" !

Sorry I mistakingly read the Nexus "fanboys marketing" brochure there ;-)

But on the other hand the Nexus will be slower, have issues with HEVC video playback and forget about 4K anything or even HD Audio.

1GB RAM when using anything Android is really resource constrained on the Nexus as well. 2GB Minimum for Android these days IMHO if you want a decent Android TV experience.
