Nvidia Shield TV won't play 4k videos (or 4k HDR) in YouTube App.

by nebulight

I can't find a setting to force 4k and when I hit the stats for nerds button, it says the following:

Dimensions: 1920x1080 *2 Resolution: 2560x1440@60 Optimal Resolution: 3840x2160@60

Also the HDR10 feature isn't showing on my TV as enabled when I hit info. Anyone else have this problem? My TV is a Vizio M50-E1

EDIT: HUGE thanks to /u/nooneisreal for telling me that my cable was too old. Turns out that there is a newer type of HDMI cable and the cable I had (probably 10-15 years old) wasn't correct. $7 fix and it's working great! HDR10 in 4k with some media in plex . Also thanks to /u/Mad1723 for informing me that HDR with youtube isn't supported yet.

The app doesn't support it AFAIK (4K HDR)

Which video? Or is it all 4K videos?

Thanks for posting this with the update! Was having the same problem and using a new cable solved it.

Is the Android Settings > Display > Screen Resolution selected to 4k2k60hz for starters ?

Is the video from your Shield TV passing through a receiver, or is it connected directly to your TV?
