No sound with USB tuner live channels

by dc33

I recently picked up the Xbox one tuner to use with live channels on my gen1 Nvidia shield TV. I can pick up the channels fine but audio does not work with any of the OTA channels. All Pluto channels work fine. I tried enabling/disabling the surround sound on the shield but no luck. Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks

I had to enable audio passthrough

Unless you can passthrough OTA - Dolby Digital AC3 audio to an AVR/TV then expect Silence in Live Channels on most Live Channels compatible Apps.

Why - because the NVIDIA Shield has no Dolby Digital Audio Licence to decode AC3 into PCM Audio and NVIDIA or Google have not implemented an Open Source AC3 to PCM Audio decoder in Live Channels either to do this.

Why no Dolby Audio Licence on the Premier $200 Android TV platform ?

Cost cutting by NVIDIA on Dolby Audio Licences Fees.

This is one of those dirty little secrets the Shield fanboys do not tell you about. ;-)

The $69 Mi Box does have a Dolby Audio Licence and handles AC3 to PCM Audio decoding in Live Channels just fine.
