Nexus Player Uploading 400GB in 30 days?!

by DrEmpyrean

Hello everyone,

I am at a loss right now. My network was going to slow today and decided to check whats currently using my bandwidth. I noticed my Nexus Player is uploading at 6mb/s which I found odd, but then after changing to the past month its uploaded 400GBs. Can someone explain to me what the hell is going on with it and what its uploading? I have a fresh install of Android Oreo, and before that I had the beta.

Please I have no idea where to look and never saw anything about this.

Maybe Kodi with some torrent streaming add-on?

Has this message flashed up yet ? ;-)

"Welcome to the dodgy Kodi Addon Botnet Experience !"

Does your ISP offer a usage history of your account online? My actual data usage is never as high as my router software claims. Your router is tracking the chatty TCP traffic taking place on your network and the data that is actually being passed to the Internet.

This happened to me as well. The network slowed to a crawl and immediately sped back up after I powered down the Nexus Player. Haven't seen any significant traffic from it since the power cycle of the Nexus Player. It was odd because the device appeared to be in sleep mode while still eating up all that bandwidth.

Had almost the exact same experience except I haven't plugged mine back in since it went official. While on the beta I noticed my home network had gone to shit and discovered 20GBs had uploaded to network in the last two hours. I had been having intermittent problems so didn't figure it out for a while. I pulled the plug and haven't plugged it back in since. Figured it was a beta error. Note that it is simply not possible to upload anywhere near this to the internet (Australian Internet speeds) so it must be just aggressively scanning the absolute shit out of the local environment or something.

Trying to stream media just from my local server to a Shield was buffering constantly and other devices failing completely.

Should probably plug it back in and see if it's fixed.

looks to be android tv remote causing it.

maybe someone who is experiencing it can confirm they are seeing the same storm

You sure it's uploading? Lots of reports like my router mean uploading to the device. So the device is actually downloading. Just double check that.

I remember once installing Aerial Dream screen saver which would download each time it was launched.

Do you side load apps? Or install "free" APK files from the internet to put on your Nexus?

Best bet might be to reformat your Nexus again.
