And here I am with a MiBox still waiting for Nougat
As much as I enjoy Android TV, I agree with most of what he said , especially the need for Google to lead the way with a sub-$100 4k box that actually gets updated.
The shield is my favorite streaming device by far. I own an ATV, Xbox one, etc...And Android TV in its current state blows them out of the water. That being said, I don't want this update. I like the UI and functionality as it is and I feel like this is going to ruin a good thing.
I'm considering a Google Home and Chromecast audio devices to replace my Squeezeboxes as they die, but my Android TV has been underwhelming so far, which makes me question my next investment. A can't believe even simple apps like Photos weren't included in v1. There really is no value add IMO over any other platform like Roku, apart from being built in.
Any worth updating from nougat? I'm rooted nexus player
When Apple TV 4K is released, I see myself getting one of those. As much as Apple treats their TV device as a hobby (cliche), I don’t like the cluttered UI of the update. I’ll reserve judgment until I see customization options on Oreo update, but seriously let me pick an alternative launcher. They made a huge mistake by not allowing this. Let developers make money by allowing different options. Learn from their work.
It would be awesome if google could somehow create a way to have a sort of "hub" (shield) that would be able to "cast" the android TV UI to chromecast devices. Would have to buy a separate chromecast remote, but damn that would be slick option in my opinion
Bitching about pre-release software on three year old Dev hardware, classy.
At this point they should just team up with nvidia to make their pixel player.
