Is the MiBox still viable for 4k Netflix.

Your TV must support the correct HDCP that netflix wants and you need a HDMI cable that supports the bandwidth.

A lot of issues with Netflix and Mi Box come from the TV port doesn't support the correct version of the HDMI spec so Netflix doesn't work correctly.

Well the mibox doesn't support Amazon at all, let alone in 4k, so the Shield is really your only option.

Good thing its awesome.

I just want a tv box for watching... and Amazon video in 4k.

Looks like you're getting a shield, roku premiere/premiere+/ultra or fire tv box gen 2 (note, fire tv box gen 2 and roku premiere do not support HDR)

Watch the whole series of The Defenders on 4K Netflix using WiFi last week without one hiccup on the Mi Box.

My setup is a Apple Extreme v5 Dual N Band WiFi router that is situated at the other end of the room to the Mi Box.

No 4K Amazon Video available on the Mi Box. You have to buy a NVIDIA Shield or FireTV2 for that.

And yes ALL HDMI connected equiptment has to be HDCP 2.2 complaint for 4K Netflix or 4K Amazon Video.

Netflix 4k works great for me on two MiBoxes. We have 2017 model TVs so the HDCP stuff is not an issue.

I'm not willing to drop £180 just for watching Netflix and amazon. That's all I want from the device, nothing more and nothing less.

You while thats true. If streaming if you future like me and I cut the cord. The shield will likely last longer and not slow down as fast as cheaper options. Plus Nvidia is amazing with updates.

I've used both the shield Pro and Mi. They're both good for their price point, but the shield is worth the extra money if you're using it every day and really care about video specs. It's just a nicer overall experience and much more future proof.
